Each week this month, we’ll have different teachers teach a class of “tricks” and “treats” aka hard and/or fun stuff. It all starts with:

Hard Sh*t (7:30-8:30)
with Dan Legenthal and Ruth Evelyn
Blues dances generally place a lot of value on relaxed, personally authentic movements, and a lot of the work and practice we do centers around those and other aesthetic values. This shouldn’t be at the cost of technical expertise, though, so we’re going to give you a few challenging figures to help you with things like balance and mastery over your own movement.

Blues Basics: Jukin’ A (8:30-9:30)
with Jenn Martinez and Charlene Chow
This drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the basics! No experience or partner required! This month focuses on Jukin’, a sub-style of blues dances that were danced in juke joints, house parties, and other small social spaces. Danced to guitar, harmonica, and piano-based blues, this style has greater independence between partners. This month at Union, we’ll work on getting great hip movement, working on the Fishtail, Mooch, Grind, Figure-8s, and Slow Drag.

Dan Legenthal and Mike Grosser will be behind the DJ booth to satisfy your Blues cravings.

As always, the lesson is $5 and the dance an additional $5.
