This month, Jered Morin joins us from out-of-town! Jered is one of our instructors for Sweet Molasses Blues, and he’ll be in town early, teaching our intermediate series:

Blues Creativity (7:30-8:30)
In this class, Jered will work with us on using a powerful core to create dynamic partnered moves, adding natural styling through Afro-American body control, and covering techniques that transfer through all styles of Blues from Ballroomin’ to Jukin’ and more!

Pre-register for the series and get the Blues Clinic for free!

Blues Basics + Beginner Clinic (8:30-9:30)
This weekly drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the fundamentals. It will provide enough moves to have fun on the dance floor, as well the opportunity to hone and polish the core techniques behind the dance. Each week, we’ll cover something new, so you can come every week, or just drop in for a class or few. This class includes the beginner clinic, where you can work on your dancing one-on-one with instructors and advanced dancers. This month it will be taught by Jered Morin.

Jered Morin and Jonathan Pechon will be behind the DJ booth to satisfy your Blues cravings.

As always, the lesson is $5 and the dance is an additional $5.

It’s Clinic time once again, and we’re bringing you live music:

Blues Clinic (7:30-9:30)
The Blues Clinic is an opportunity to work one-on-one with our Blues Union instructors and to work with your friends and peers. Music plays in the background as people work together, and the instructors move around the room, working with people one-on-one or in couples. When not working with instructors, people work with peers, dance with each other, try new things they’re working on, or try things the instructors have helped them with. You can work on material from that month’s series class, workshops you took recently, or anything you like! From 8:30-9:00, we have our Blues Basics class as usual, while the clinic continues in the rest of the room.

Amy Kucharik is a dancer favorite, and a dancer herself. She is a singer-songwriter known for juxtaposing sweet ukulele sounds and thoughtful lyrics, delivered with a voice and style that recalls early jazz and blues performers. You can find out more about Amy at http://www.amykucharik.com/

Naturally, because we have a band, we’ll be going till midnight.

As always the Clinic is $5, and as with live music nights, the dance will be $10.

Come learn even more about the Blues from Devona Cartier, Julie Brown, and Jonathan Pechon:

All about the Music (7:30-8:30)
From the Mississippi delta to the ballrooms of New York, blues music has a rich history and a variety of styles that gives us a lot to work with as dancers. Do you know about Piedmont, Texas blues, or the musical genres that led to blues? This series will delve into the roots of blues music, its many styles, the dances that grew up with the music styles, and how a deeper knowledge of the music can enrich our blues dancing.

This series will involve plenty of dancing but will also be excellent DJ training, and will involve some time for DJs to practice DJing. For more details, email julie@newschoolswing.com.
