Before each dance, there are two classes:
Intermediate+ (series class) | 7:30-8:30pm
This class is designed for dancers who’ve got a good handle on the basics and are excited to delve deep into blues technique, expression, and more advanced vocabulary. These classes serve students from intermediate up through advanced and masters.
To take the Intermediate+ series, you must have taken all 6 monthly themes in the Blues Union Basics class and/or at Bluesy Tuesy. The themes are Jukin’ A, Jukin’ B, Ballroomin’ A, Ballroomin’ B, Struttin’ & Improvisation, and Triple Steps & Improvisation. The themes are staggered between Blues Union & Bluesy Tuesy, so if you take both weekly classes concurrently, you can finish all the themes in as little as 3 months.
If you take an Intermediate+ class, you’re welcome to stay for the Blues Basics class afterwards, for free.
*On the last Thursday of each month, we have an all-levels Blues Clinic instead of the Intermediate+ class. At the Blues Clinic, you can practice what you’ve learned with help and feedback from instructors and peers, do our self-guided activity, or just use the time to work on whatever you like. Instructors & other helpers wear a blue bandana, so you can easily find them for help.
Blues Basics (drop-in class) | 8:30-9:30pm
This class is great for anyone who’s new to blues dancing (first 6 months to a year) or anyone who wants to re-focus on the fundamentals. There are 6 monthly themes to take (and retake!): Jukin’ A, Jukin’ B, Ballroomin’ A, Ballroomin’ B, Struttin’ & Improvisation, and Triple Steps & Improvisation.
The Blues Basics class happens every week, even on weeks when there’s a Blues Clinic.
