This week at Blues Union

Union Foundations: March 31

**Fun, cool moves and how to learn them**
Teachers: Julie Brown & Jenn Martinez
All levels, no partner required

Learn some enjoyable solo and partnered blues moves, while working on some of the learning skills touched on in last week’s class. (You don’t need to have taken last week’s class.)
If you have a solo or partnered move you think is cool and want to share, you’ll have an opportunity to do that during the class if you want to as well! You won’t have to worry about verbally explaining it.

7:15pm – Doors open / arrive, say hi, get shoes on
7:30-9:30pm – Class rolling into practice/social time
Afterwards, we may go hang at Bow Market, depending on weather.

Sliding scale $10-25, admission covers the whole night. No one turned away due to lack of funds.

Pre-sale tickets available here: https://withfriends.co/…/in_person_class_plus_practice…

Union Foundations: March 24

This week, join online or in-person for a class, followed by open practice time for folks in-person.

Let’s explore another fun, relaxed way of learning to dance – learning on the social floor! Teachers Katrina Rogers (Denver) & Jenn Martinez (Boston) will talk about ways of learning on the social floor that are helpful and feel great, how that functions in each of their personal experiences in Black and other cultures’ social dance spaces, and then help us put some of these ideas into practice.

-7:30-8:30pm ET – Class (online & in-person)
-8:30-10:30pm ET – Open practice/social time

Sliding scale $5-15 online, $10-25 in-person – admission covers the whole night

Union Foundations: March 10

This week, visiting instructor Jamica Zion will teach some classes, followed by open practice time.

7pm Beginner/refresher class
8pm Beyond-beginner class
Open practice time ’til 10:30pm

Jamica Zion is a national instructor, choreographer, and performer who specializes in black vernacular dances, including but not limited to: Jazz, Lindy Hop, and many Blues idioms. With over ten years of experience, she identifies as an academic-activist-artist. Jamica has dedicated her life to these dances for many reasons. Some of her favorite reasons are their historical and cultural significance (community building and creative acts of resistance!), and their prioritization of creative individuality. Her students can expect flexible guidance through the class material, fun facts, and usually a good laugh or two. Her classes are less focused on moves and more so on refining technique that allows for the most comfortable connection between partners and their expression to the music.

Sliding scale $10-25 – admission covers the whole night
