This week at Blues Union

Thursday, October 23

We have one more creativity boosting class from Julie Brown:

Breaking Out of the Box (7:30-8:30)
Feel like you’re stuck in a dancing rut? Always doing the same moves in the same way? This month, we’ll break out of our boxes and have some fun moving in new ways and getting creative with our blues.

Blues Basics + Beginner Clinic (8:30-9:30)
This weekly drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the fundamentals. It will provide enough moves to have fun on the dance floor, as well the opportunity to hone and polish the core techniques behind the dance. Each week, we’ll cover something new, so you can come every week, or just drop in for a class or few. This class includes the beginner clinic, where you can work on your dancing one-on-one with instructors and advanced dancers. This month it will be taught by Amanda Gruhl Mayer and Zach Brass.

Amy Kucharik will be behind the DJ booth to scratch your Blues itch.

As always, the lesson is $5 and the dance is an additional $5.

This month Julie Brown will amp up the creativity in our dancing:

Dirty Water has come and gone, and our Drag Blues series has come to a close, so bring on the Clinic:

Blues Clinic (7:30-9:30)
The Blues Clinic is an opportunity to work one-on-one with our Blues Union instructors and to work with your friends and peers. Music plays in the background as people work together, and the instructors move around the room, working with people one-on-one or in couples. When not working with instructors, people work with peers, dance with each other, try new things they’re working on, or try things the instructors have helped them with. You can work on material from that month’s series class, workshops you took recently, or anything you like! From 8:30-9:00, we have our Blues Basics class as usual, while the clinic continues in the rest of the room.

As always, the Clinic is $5, and the dance an additional $5.

Thursday, September 25

The Dirty Water Lindy and Blues Exchange is here, and Blues Union is co-hosting opening night! Note the venue and schedule changes below.

From 8-9pm Ruth Evelyn and Mike Grosser will be teaching an all-levels, beginner friendly Blues lesson.

General dancing will take place from 9 to midnight.

Plus, there’s live music! It’s the Boston debut of Miss Ida Blue. She’s a bawdy backroom New York City Blues singer who fronts a band that is a smoking red hot and swingin’ blues. The band features some musicians who are regulars in Woody Allen’s band and the Vince Giordano’s Boardwalk Empire band. And some of these players, you may have seen at the Whistle Stop before…New York City’s finest…and we’re not talking about the cops.

This is all taking place at The Crosby Whistle Stop, located at 24 Roland St in Charlestown.

If you’re registered for Dirty Water, this night is included. At the door the price is $15 general, $13 students and seniors.
