This week at Blues Union

Intermediate Classes

Starting next month we will be offering intermediate series classes! All of the requirements, along with an FAQ, have been posted on our Upcoming Classes page.

Thursday, June 7

This month we have Jenn Martinez serving up some solo Blues with attitude:

Solo Stylin’ (7:30-8:30)
Blues dance is more than what you do…. it’s how you do it. In this series, we’ll explore how physical techniques and soulful expression can bring even simple choreography to life.

Beginner Crash Course (8:30-9:00)
This will be a weekly feature designed to introduce novices to Blues dancing. It will provide enough vocabulary to have fun on the dance floor. Plus, when students feel comfortable with this material, they’ll be ready for the Series classes.

Steve York and Kelsey Ballance will be behind the DJ booth to whet your Blues appetite.

As always, the lesson is $5 and the dance is an additional $5.

Thursday, May 31

It’s time once again for our monthly Clinic and some live music!

Blues Clinic (7:30-9)
During Blues Clinics we gather as many instructors as we can for personalized instruction. Students dance with instructors and get individual feedback on their dancing. Music plays continuously in the background, and students are encouraged to social dance and give each other feedback while not dancing with instructors.

This month the David Hayward Band will be making its Blues Union debut. They’ll be rocking a wide variety of both contemporary Blues and Blues-rock. For more information and to get a taste of their sound you can visit http://www.benjaminroadband.com/.

And since we have a band, we’ll be going till midnight.

As always with live music nights, the Clinic is $5 and the dance an additional $10.

Thursday, May 24

Come catch the last week of awesomeness from guest instructors Mike Legett and Dan Rosenthal:

These are a Few of Our Favorite Things (7:30-8:30)
Two Parts Moves, One Part Musicality, and a Dash of Technique, the Perfect Recipe for Blues. Using a few cool moves as a means of addressing important technique topics, we’ll explore ways to be musical both by acknowledging specific moments (small picture) and throughout a song (big picture) making you fun to dance with from start to finish. Topics may include close embrace or Drag Blues-inspired moves, stretchy-zoomy movement, phrasing, and creativity.
