Join us for another week of shaking up our creativity and our hips in:

Expressin’ the Blues (7:30-8:30)
with Jenn Martinez and Forrest Rogers-Marcovitz
Blues is more than a dance genre, blues is a feeling! When you have a lot of vocabulary, how can you use it to make artistic choices? In this series we’ll workshop ways to connect to the energy and emotion of blues music, as well as develop more personal meaning in our dance styles. We’ll also explore how we can present that in both social and performative/competitive contexts.

Blues Basics: Jukin’ A (8:30-9:30)
with Jenn Martinez and K. Faye Jones
This weekly drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the fundamentals. No experience or partner required! This month, we’ll be learning some jukin’ blues! Jukin’ is a sub-style of blues dances that were danced in juke joints, house parties, and other small social spaces. Danced to guitar, harmonica, and piano-based blues, this style has greater independence between partners. This month, we’ll work on getting great hip movement, working on the Fishtail, Mooch, Grind, Figure-8s, and Slow Drag.

Amy Blank and Steve York will be behind the DJ booth to scratch your Blues itch.

As always, the lesson is $5, and the dance an additional $5.
