This week at Blues Union

Thursday, December 12

Join us as we send off 2019 in style!

Extended Topics: Some of My Favorite Things (7:00-8:00)
with Julie Brown and Dan Legenthal
This month, with only two lessons, we’ll be doing some of Julie’s favorite things. This time we’ll focus on two questions. What are we leading? What are we following? Explore the elements we lead & follow in blues by default, and play with different modes of lead-follow, to bring more versatility to your partnerships and find more ways to play within the connection.

Blues Basics: Struttin’ & Improvisation (8:00-9:00)
with Julie Brown and Kal Anderson
This month, each week covers a different topic. Some weeks, we’ll work on Struttin’–a close embrace dance great for mid-to-uptempo blues–and work on close embrace connection and zippy turns. Other weeks, we’ll learn how to listen to the music, find your own basic, and build a beautiful dance to any style of blues music.

After classes, we’ll have live music from Any Kucharik & Tiger Moan! Plus, there will be a holiday pop-up market. Three local businesses will be present during the dance: Whisper Designs, Devinto Designs, and Chevalier Homme.

Sliding scale pre-sale tickets are available on our website here.

As always, the lesson is $5, and the special event dance is $15.

It’s an an abbreviated month at Blues Union, so we’re bringing out the good stuff in:

Extended Topics: Some of My Favorite Things (7:00-8:00)
with Julie Brown and Paul Loschak
This month, with only two lessons, we’ll be doing some of Julie’s favorite things. Up first is mega-cozy close embrace – how to have the coziest close embrace dances, and how to feel more comfortable, connected, and with more options for expression in close embrace.

We’ve got one more installment of classes to dive into this month:

Extended Topics: Deep Dives (7:00-8:00)
with Shira Hoffman and Paul Loschak
This month we’ll be digging in to specific topics that make Blues look and feel amazing! We hear terms like lag, stretch and being ‘grounded’, but what do those term really mean and how do we achieve them in our bodies? Get ready to get geeky and think about how our bodies move and feel when we dance.
Level: Advanced beginner to advanced

Blues Basics: Ballroomin’ A (8:00-9:00)
with Julie Brown and Kal Anderson
This drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the basics! No experience or partner required! This month focuses on ballroomin’ blues, danced to jazz-blues music. We’ll be working on one-step and two-step for blues, two stylish walking dances with close embrace, fun footwork patterns, and delightful turns.

Julie Brown and Jenny Eldred will be behind the DJ booth to get your Blues groove on.
