For the last installment of our Black History all level series, we’ll be featuring another African American partner dance!

Essentials of Detroit-Style Ballroom (7:30-8:30)
with Tourino Jacks
Detroit Ballroom, also known as Detroit Cha Cha, is based on the cha cha calypso. It’s danced to R&B artists such as Roy Ayers, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, and The Tempations. This class will cover the fundamentals.

Basics: Ballroomin’ B (8:30-9:30)
with Julie Brown & Clayton Jennings
This weekly drop-in class is designed for new-to-blues dancers or anyone wanting to focus on the fundamentals. No experience or partner required! This month, we’ll focus on Ballroomin’, a sub-style of blues dances that were danced in ballrooms to jazz-blues. The first 2 weeks, we’ll work on close embrace and some cool moves, while learning Savoy Walk. The last 2 weeks, we’ll work on our close embrace connection and lag, through Ballroom-style Slow Drag.

Amy Kucharik and Paul Loschak will be behind the DJ booth to whet your Blues appetite.

As always, the lesson is $5 and the dance an additional $5. Donations will also be welcome.
