This week at Blues Union

Thursday, July 23

This week Blues Union is back in action with Ogden and Amanda throwing down a moves class to top a month of styling! They’ll be teaching their intermediate lesson from 7:30 to 8:30, and a beginner lesson from 8:30 to 9:00. DJ Brooksalicious and Zac “Margarita” Wine will then pick up the pace and spin some tunes for us from 9 to 11!

As always, the lessons + dance are $10, while the dance alone is $5.

Blues Union is located at 16 Bow St, Somerville MA. Park across the street in the Citizen’s Bank parking lot!

Also – put next week’s Blues Union on your calendar! Damon Stone (http://www.blues-dance.com/aboutus/damonstone/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whr0Y16rbic) will be flying in to do his workshop weekend, and will be teaching the intermediate and beginner lessons at Blues Union as a bonus!

Thursday, July 16

This week Gui and Julie are teaming up to bring you “Strut Your Stuff”:

In the Interactive Blues class a few weeks ago, Ogden and Amanda showed you how to create space to play in your dancing. But what do you do with your new-found freedom? In this class, we’ll show you some of our favorite badass stylings to do when given space, as well as some of our favorite times to play. We’ll also be expanding on the concept of creating space to play, showing you some more ways to do it, including how leads can give themselves some room to show off for the follows too!

And leads… if you’re good, Gui will teach you how to spin.

Gui and Julie will be teaching this intermediate lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. From 8:30 to 9:00, they will teach a beginner crash course for newcomers to get up to speed in Blues dancing and be able to enjoy themselves on the social dance floor.

By a strange twist of scheduling, Julie and Gui will also be DJing the dance that runs from 9 to 11!

The lesson + dance cost $10, and the dance alone costs $5.

Thursday, July 2

This week at Blues Union Gui and Jenn will be teaching the beginner and intermediate lessons. The intermediate lesson is called Setting Yourself Up To Improvise:

Blues dancing is improvisation. The problem is, when you’re on the dance floor, it can feel like you’re staring at a blank sheet of paper and you’re being told to create a work of art – where do you start?! Luckily, there are tricks you can learn to change your pattern of dancing so that it’s almost impossible NOT to improvise new, exciting moves. This class will teach you how to set up your dancing so that you have to improvise.

We will be changing up the schedule for this class. Let me type in caps, to be perfectly clear.

THE INTERMEDIATE CLASS WILL BE FROM 7:30 TO 8:30

THE BEGINNER CLASS WILL BE FROM 8:30 TO 9:00

We would love for the intermediate dancers to stay in the rotation and help the beginners get ahead as quickly as possible!

After the lesson, Gui and Rif will be spinning us some sultry Blues music until 11!

The lesson and the dance cost $10, and the dance alone costs $5.

Thursday, June 23

This week we will be continuing our Beginner lesson crash course with Gui and Jenn, which will run from 7:30 to 8:00. Come and soak up as much as you can, and then prepare yourself for… the Blues Clinic! We’ll be throwing Gui, Jenn, Julie, Sara and perhaps Ogden into the mix, giving personalized feedback to everyone for an hour instead of having a lesson. This is a great way to get better at Blues dancing FAST – you’re essentially getting a mini private lesson for a fraction of the price!

Once all that is done, the dancing kicks in full gear from 9 to 11. This Thursday we’ll have the lovely Downtown Julie Brown and Zac “I prefer beer” Wine throwing down some tunes for us.

Coming for the lesson or the Clinic and staying for the dance costs $10, while just the dance costs $5.
